Chimney Repairs Case Study 2

The property was constructed c1870. It had over eighteen chimney stacks with sixty four flues some over 30 metres in height. All flues were fully cleared and repair to make functional. Four stacks needed complete rebuilding. This entailed detailed surveying, recording and numbering of the stacks prior to dismantling. Complete rebuilding of the stacks took place above roof level with the introduction of new stainless steel cramps where the previous wrought iron cramps had corroded. In problem areas where there had been evidence of water ingress we deep tamped mortar and repointed with a hydrophobic lime mortar.
